I hope that none of our Oz members are affected by the devastating floods in Queensland. What a country for extremes of weather! From bush fires and savage droughts to floods!

the floods ought to stem fires and help against their drought conditions

We haven't been plagued by fires so far this season thank goodness. Unfortunately the floods don't really do anything to help the drought. The water is very destructive and then it flows to the sea, into underground aquifers or evaporates. Our food prices will rise as most of the crops have been destroyed and unlike the UK and Europe the cost of importing food here is very prohibitive. The floods being experienced at the moment are in Queensland and parts of central western NSW. They are part of a natural phenomenon that occurs about every 40 years or so. The waters will head south flushing the Murray-Darling River system which will be a good thing as those rivers haven't been flowing for many many years. Hopefully the water table will drop and that will take the mineral salts out of the soil and rivers but it may be a couple of years before the land can be used again. Dorothea Mackellar wrote a very stirring poem about Australia and it just about sums up the weather here. Try this site and you'll need the sound. www.imagesaustralia.com/mycountry.htm

That is a beautiful poem. I loved it and I`ve bookmarked it to pass on. Thanks for sharing it with us. Describes the country and how people feel about the country, doesn`t it? It`s great when a country`s people are so positive about their homeland.

Interesting poem, I'm afraid the only alternative I could make up about the UK would be totally opposite to that one, land of cr*p and scumbags... roll on 65 when I can leave for good.

Tell you what, I`ll have a bash and post it here. I`ll just have a bit of a think and a nibble on me pencil! Come on now! Positive thinking!

Hi Expat,
Why do I have to wait until I'm 65? Because I still have debts, I work most days to keep my head above water and pay for all the immigrants, criminals and welfare scroungers to have their 40 fags a day and their 42" plasma TV. It is bad here, I work as a fraud investigator and believe me I meet scum just about every day, Asian fraudsters, liars, benefit cheats, lowlife kids who have no concern for anyone but theirselves. I hate this country with a vengeance and cannot wait to leave. My daughter is emigrating to New Zealand when my grandkids are a little older, she does not want them bought up in the UK where the primary language is going to be some muslim rant. She lives in Leicester and it's spot the white man. My son lives in Slough, he is considering Canada as he is in a similar position and that means my other grandkids will be gone too. He is sick of policing the area with it's Asian and other immigrant problems. I find it hard to make any positive remarks about the UK. When my daughter in law was due to give birth last November she was sent home three times because there was no bed available. They were all full of Asians sprogging their sixth child, just imagine the benefits! There is little to hold me here, we are fortunate to live in a rural area but we still have the odd problems. There are no blacks here so that helps. You may consider me racist? well maybe I am, I do very occasionally meet the decent Asian but few and far between, most are genetic frauds and have very low moral standards. No one asked me if I wanted a multi racial Britain, and no, I don't, I want it to be like it was before the oaf Blair took power. I truly believe that the huge majority of UK citizens agree with me and would wish a return to the immigrantand associated crime free days. I would dearly love to retire to the USA but white UK citizens are not welcome there and are not entitled to the visa scheme. The same applies with Canada and New Zealand. We will hopefully retire to an EU country, whilst these also have their problems they are nowhere near as bad as the UK. We like Belgium a great deal, very low crime, few Asians, Polish etc. The other reason to wait until 65 is that health care is not reciprocated in EU contries until that age, unless of course it's Britain, doormat of the world where the rule does not apply. Sorry Expat, there are no valid reasons for anyone to remain in this festering cesspit of immigrants, ruled by a government that has no idea of democracy or the desires of the average decent working UK family.
Rant over

Badger - I`m so sorry that you have such a rotten experience of life here in Britain. My question wasn`t a criticism of you. I just wondered why 65. I`ve been lucky in that I haven`t had those negative experiences. I hope that your daughter manages to get to New Zealand. It sounds a great country. Perhaps you could join her there in due course. I didn`t realise that EU healthcare doesn`t apply to us. I haven`t been abroad for a year or two but last time I went to France I applied for my E111 card and received treatment from a doctor when I became ill from an infected insect bite. (That was before I was over 65) I`ll have to check that when we go again. I like Belgium too.

Expat,
You are fine with the E111 for holidays etc. The 65 rule only applies to residence status so you can carry on using that for reciprocal medical attention with no problems. If I were to go now I would have to pay for my own treatment until 65, then I would have free cover but still have to pay the first small amount as an excess, most ex Brits take out insurance for the excess. You are indeed fortunate to have missed out on the true UK experience!! If I could afford to retire here then perhaps I would also be out of contact with the scumbags but 30 years as a police officer and 10 years as a fraud investigator has bought me into contact continually with the dregs of this once great country. Too late for me I'm afraid, gone beyond the point of no return when it comes to immigrants, criminals etc.. this country is finished and I don't blame my children for wishing to leave, it will trouble me because I won't see my grandkids, and all this because of Blair and Brown, both now retired in luxury.
Tim, you are correct, there will be social disorder on the streets of the UK and it will not be long coming, I fear this is the only way to impress on an incompetent and apathetic government that the true people of the UK have had enough. I hope it comes before I retire so I can join in!!

We will not get unrest on the streets because of labours social engineering, most people think they are middle class now and cannot be seen to do anything which might hurt their social standing (WHAT WILL THE NEIGHBOURS THINK, DEARIE ME !!!!!).

:)Well, like any place in this world you take things as you find them, if however you have a job like Badger, and you are introduced to low life, thats how you'll find IT, if on the other hand like me, who selects his Friends, and places to visit, has interest beyond the pub and smoking, gambling ex, has Friends all over the country because of my hobby, does a lot of walking in the country side, i find this country to be great, i don't like city's, i have not been shopping in Nottingham for over 10 years, not because any other reason than i don't want to, Calverton has its problems, but so does every place in the world, and if you go looking for it, you'll find it
